Legend has it that a long time ago, in this mountainous area, there was a pair of dragons playing with each other, when a fierce flood came. One was able to fly into the sky, while the other was stuck on earth, turning to stone towards the direction his friend had flown away, that is, west of the Hoang Lien Son range. The first part is Ham Rong Mountain today, while the tail stretches from Heaven Gate, the top of O Quy Ho Pass, to the boundary of Muong Hoa commune.

Another legend about Ham Rong mountain involves the three Dragon brothers. At the beginning of the world, all creatures lived in chaos everywhere in the mud and dirt, so the Jade Emperor ordered the creatures to establish their own territorial boundaries. At that time, the three Dragon brothers looked to the East and saw that there was no place, so they decided to run to the West.

The youngest brother could not keep up with the two older brothers, so he got lost in the crowd of tigers and leopards, cowering in fear and opening his mouth to defend himself. Just then, the time limit for claiming the territory had expired, the Dragon’s younger brother was turned to stone with his head held high and his mouth open, that was the Ham Rong Mountain Sapa.

And the two older brothers returned to save the younger brother, but it was too late. They also turned into two large mountain ranges next to each other, forming three adjacent mountain ranges, which can be clearly observed from Sapa commune. No matter what the story is, Ham Rong Mountain is a beautiful place where you can enjoy the wild natural scenery of heaven and earth in the cool air of Sapa.
